How to get into USS Midway for FREE!
USS Midway
Only 4 miles from the MCRD San Diego Depot, the USS Midway naval aircraft carrier is docked at the Naval Pier and is a great attraction to view when visiting San Diego. It has over 60 exhibits that honor the service and sacrifice of US naval aviators. Tours are offered throughout the day, with or without reservations. In fact, it's one of the largest you can tour in the world. You'll see how 81 officers and 4,100 sailors lived on the ship. You'll see how they flew airplanes off of it and how the planes were maintained. You'll see some really awesome exhibits that display the history of aviation and naval warfare. The experience is worth it for the plane by itself; however, there's a lot more to it than just that single exhibit.

One Facebook Group member said ”They MCRD wasn't allowing the grads to leave and go home so my new Marine wasn't able to go. They seen me wearing my proud Marine mom shirt all we had to do was show my son's pictures from graduation and his photo and we got in for free as a family. We were all paying when she gave us our money back and said thank you for our sons service. We enjoyed the ship”
That’s amazing! Good job, USS Midway.

Here are amazing families of the nation’s newest Marines. I met up with these folks at Liberty Station, formerly known as the Naval Training Center San Diego, which welcomed its first Navy recruits in 1923 and closed after 60 years. Liberty Station is now San Diego's Town Square and perfectly replicates Marine Corps Recruit Depots architecture.
COVID-19 Cancels Marine Boot Camp Graduations MCRD San Diego, CA.
Families were excited and ready to see their new marine until 9 am when it was announced all events were canceled, so was graduation, and to leave base immediately! NO ONE expected this; morale plummeted.
"I became a Marine because I wanted to instill discipline in myself and see if I had it in me to overcome the challenges of boot camp. Now I not only have earned the title but I have also found my place in a brotherhood that will last a lifetime and have learned that the only limits we have are the ones we set for ourselves. The Marine Corps has set me up for success and has given me the mental and physical strength to tackle any obstacle that comes before me." -PFC Brody Fink
